HIFU Therapy FAQ’s
HIFU stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound. It is a safe, non-surgical ultrasound treatment that counteracts the effects of time and gravity on your skin. It is a very effective means of skin tightening and anti-aging.
People in their 30s or slightly older have mild to moderate skin laxity. People with early signs of aging and those looking for a natural, young look love this treatment. It is also very effective for the double chin and can show some effects on puffy eyes.
Pain depends on the type of machine used. At Ojas, we offer a painless experience to our clients. No needles are used in this procedure.
HIFU can be done over the full face, including the eyes and neck. It can also be done on the body for skin tightening in areas like the abdomen and arms where skin becomes loose after weight loss.
HIFU is not a substitute for Botox and fillers, but it significantly reduces the amount of injectables needed.
HIFU Therapy treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery but won’t duplicate the results of a facelift. However, it is a great alternative, especially for those not ready for surgery or for patients looking to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck procedure typically takes 45–60 minutes, while the abdomen or arms treatment on its own takes approximately 60–90 minutes.
With HIFU therapy treatment, there is no downtime. After your procedure, you can resume your normal activities immediately without having to follow any special post-treatment measures.
This may be based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy, and the individual’s collagen-building process. At Ojas, we recommend our patients have three sessions in a year, which are 4 months apart. Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help clients keep pace with the body’s natural aging process.
The HIFU procedure has been used safely in over 250,000 treatments worldwide. Ultrasound energy itself has been used safely in the medical field for more than 50 years.
A patient may experience slight redness, swelling, tingling, or tenderness, but these are temporary in nature and last only a few hours.
After your HIFU treatment, you may see some initial effects, but the ultimate results will take place over 1-2 months as your body naturally regenerates collagen. Since the procedure stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last really depends on you. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.
It can be combined with other aesthetic treatments like radiofrequency, peels, q-switch laser, botox, fillers, and PRP, as per the doctor’s direction. HIFU cannot be done after fillers for 6 months.
